Atherstone Lock 7

On the move again by 8.30 and at last no rain while we were travelling. Went past Pooley Hall which is such a lovely house not too sure about the canon though.

As we went through Polesworth Paul made a quick call to Cox Autos to tell them roughly what time we would be nr Atherstone. We had been advised to moor up between locks 8 and 7 near Barry Hawkins yard. Once again when we got to the locks everyone was going up. These locks are slow to fill but fast to empty at least we were only tackling 4 of the 11 today. Once we were moored up Paul called Ken to tell him of our where abouts and was told someone would be with us soon. I had just got the dogs off the boat when I saw a young man with a tool box coming towards me just 15 minutes after our call how quick was that.

Once on the boat Paul went through the cause of the fault, the engineer then tested the control box and the generator and he suggested they they both be removed and returned to the workshop for a bench test. Paul was very impressed with this young man who hasnt long completed his apprenticeship which was 5 years I might add not a 3 day college course on how to wire a 13 amp plug. While the engineer disconnected the control box Paul got his spanners out and removed the generator he then walked back to the car with him carrying the bits. Engineer said he would call later with the diagnosis , 2 hours later Ken (the boss) called to give us the bad news, yes the box has had an ingress of water and one of the circuit boards had blown so a new board has to be fitted. As for the generator although it is in working order, due to the circuit board blowing the electronics are in need of replacement however after discusions with Ken Paul has gone the whole hog and had it completely reconditioned this of course is an extra cost. They hope to have it completed early tomorrow afternoon. So far Paul has been very pleased with the service we have recieved and as usual has had a bit of banter with Ken. Talking to the engineer he told Paul of all the different kinds of work they carry out not just boat electrics but other commercial and industrial installations that tells us Ken is of the old school and Paul feels that he can trust him.
So will probably be here until Saturday depending on what time the travel pack and genny are re-installed. I may wander to Atherstone in the morning understand there is a market on a Friday. At least we have decent TV and internet also Virgin and freight trains thundering by but hey ho we are getting used to the noise of the railway now.
