Would you believe it!!! We had just got into Atherstone and the time was 10.45 when we had a phone call from Richard the engineer to say that the repairs were finished and they were bench testing. Could we meet him at the bridge at 12 noon. So our visit to the town was a very swift one.
To cut a long story short while Richard was fitting the control box back in the cupboard Paul was refitting the generator to the engine. Then came the dreaded moment when the engine was started up would everything be okay OF COURSE IT WAS. Richard carried out some test procedures and hey presto everything burst into life so here endeth the saga of the travel pack. Now we are so impressed with service and the quality of workmanship Paul is going to email the company man Ken (yes this is the same Paul that moans about absolutely everything).
For those of you who are interested and for those who have a Travel Pack on board it is worth making a note of this company as they will also recondition older type starter motors alternators and Victron invertors.They also do an exchange service on certain items. Richard mentioned to Paul that the 240v Travel Pack generators should be serviced every 3 years this includes cleaning replacement of brushes and slip rings. If this is neglected should a fault occur the damage could be more serious however this was not the case with ours because I BLEW THE BOX UP. If you need more info contact us. And the cost, believe it or not just over £500 which was a lot less than Paul expected and considering the job was completed within 24 hours I think that it was well worth it.
We are staying here till Monday now as we need to give the Travel Pack a good try out, washing machine, hoover, hairdryer, electric drill, don't have a bread maker (yet) but I am sure what ever runs on 240v will be tried out.
Hopefully our box cover is being delivered tomorrow. John rang us yesterday to say that the material had only just arrived but he would get his finger out and run up the cover today. Another very accommodating company.
Now Paul is getting very depressed as he has nothing to moan about or no one to moan at. I am keeping a very low profile and have vowed NEVER to tidy up anything of Paul's that relates to tools and fishing tackle.

- After years of working,Paul and I retired early. I worked in accounts departments and Paul spent 39 years as an Electrical Mechanical engineer in the industrial refrigeration industry. Paul also served time as a refrigeration engineer officer with P&O, to-ing and fro-ing to NZ. In 2001 we decided to move to Spain where we bought an old Spanish finca that needed total renovation. We took our 1500 Goldwing with us to Spain planning to explore the country. But because of the amount of work that needed doing to the finca we were unable to get full use of our lovely motorbike. So it was shipped back to England where it was sold. It took us 3 1/2 years to finish the house, by which time Paul was hankering after another bike so we bought a new Honda VTX 1300 cruiser which was a pleasure to use with our biker friends. In 2007 the writing was on the wall so we decided to return to the UK and bought our lovely narrowboat which was a big step for me as I had never dreamt of living on a narrowboat. Paul has had sailing boats in the past and regulary crewed on a Medway Bawley Gaffer and raced in many local events. We are continuous cruisers planning to explore as much as we can.
