More shoddy workmanship.

As it was a nice day yesterday Paul decided he was going to give the roof of the boat its 2 monthly scrub down and a good polish. However while he was clearing the roof he noticed around the plank and pole brackets some brown staining on the paint work which had appeared since the last time the roof was cleaned. So it looked as though the wash and polish was going to be put on hold while the brackets were removed and investigated. It does appear that no sealant was put through the screw holes hence water has got in and pickled the paint.

You can imagine Pauls response certain people were called all the names under the sun and Paul was getting upset wondering where this will ever end as you can appreciate if this is not dealt with we will end up with a raddled rust roof.

Himself decide that only way to deal with this was to carefully  with a sharp pointed knife remove the pickled paint from the holes, rub very carefully back to bare metal, add 3 coats of red oxide a then replace the brackets with sealant.

Luckily the feet of the brackets were big enough to cover the infected area. Paul said that this paint work is only 9 months old and here we are touching up the rust due to someone's stupidity and botched workmanship.

This morning after saying goodbye to our friends who have gone on to Chester Paul got stuck in to the cleaning of the roof. During the clean we have found more rust coming through the paintwork.

This needs to be enlarged to appreciate the rust spots.

You may remember Paul carried out some work on the side hatch lid some weeks ago but since then the paint is pickling with rust around the backside near the hinges.

If this rust continues to grow as Paul suspects it will it looks like we will have to fork out for another paint job next year. But in light of recent events where would you find someone who is trustworthy and capable of carrying out a proper job to a decent standard instead of being in it to make a fast buck and rip you off.
