Well our plans to move from Widewater Lock at the weekend didn't materialise as both Saturday and Sunday the canal was frozen although on both days by lunch time it had thawed we just couldn't be bothered to move at 1pm. Only downside was we had no internet connection.
Yesterday in the pouring rain we left the mooring to head up to Tesco's just before lock 81 Batchworth (Paul wasn't impressed with pasty and chips for his Sunday lunch). By the time we got there we were absolutely soaked, the rain had even penetrated Paul's sailing coat. I went off to get the shopping while Paul sorted the dogs out. Once back on board we decided to find a mooring once we were through the lock. As usual that was easier said than done. 4 locks later I was getting a tad fed up with "we will just see what is round the corner" mind you round every corner was a row of long term moorings or nothing suitable. Once we hit Cassiobury Park we were in luck and moored up on the end of a line of boats, when we got the canopy up we stood on the back of the boat and stripped off (not a pretty sight) There was Paul stripped to his underpants, he panicked as his legs had gone a funny shade of brown and he thought he had gone rusty, but no it was just the dye from the waist area of his new brown shirt which was soaking wet. I got in the shower and put my PJ's on even though it was only 5pm, Paul while waiting for me to get out of the shower had a navy tot of Captain Morgans to warm himself through, looking at the bottle it was more than a navy tot. When Paul went into the bathroom all I could hear was a lot of swearing, as usual when he was undressing himself he got his big toe caught in the crutch of his wet underpants and was crashing about while trying to unhook himself from the offending article. Why does this always happen, especially after a large navy tot!!!
I had done a load of washing on the way so we were surrounded by damp clothes, once the fire was opened up it didn't take long for the clothes to dry. During the night it got extremely windy and we could hear every thing rattling on the roof. However it has calmed down this morning but is very overcast.
Our plan (should I say this) is to move up to Kings Langley tomorrow which is 8 locks away, weather forecast looks promising for the morning. But we will see. Have decided to call Paul SHUDAVE as all he keeps saying is "we shudhave stopped there, or we shudhave moored back there, or we shudhave stayed where we were and on one occasion even said, he shudhave listened to me when we passed the perfect mooring spot. At least we are getting nearer to Braunston, the marker says 73 miles.
There is no way we are moving today in the rain as our wetties are still, well, wet so we are staying in the warm. Sure there must be a cowboy on the tele for Paul to watch.
