1 down 8 to go.
Yes at long last the first window has been removed, the wooden surround has been rubbed down and varnished (more dust). The window was then taken apart. I must say this was a trial run to see how long the whole process would take. Why have we done this? Well every time we opened the sliding window all you could hear was the grating of glass on crap in the runner and the only way to sort it (we thought) was to take the window apart. Everything was washed down thoroughly, channels, rubbers, windows and left in the sun to dry while the varnishing was done.
All in bits.
Then of course everything had to be put together again, with sealant in the appropriate places, there was a lot of swearing, screws were done up then undone again at one point we realised that one of the rubbers should have been put in before the whole thing was screwed together but with the aid of my trusty butter knife we got over that problem.
Ready to be fitted.
In situ.
It has taken us 4 hours from start to finish and we are pleased with the end result as we now have one non grating window. Another PRIORITY job has reared its head which will be done tomorrow and another window will be tackled on Saturday while the weather is in our favour.
Paul has rung Channel Glaze with regard to replacing the 2 damaged bedroom windows we have been told that there is an approximate 6 week wait for these, at least we wont be reliant on the weather being good as the varnishing will be out of the way by the time they turn up.
