It some ways it is nice to be at Rugby, at last we have a decent internet connection, we are close to the doctors, I can just get the shopping I need at Tesco not a whole trolley full. Down side of course is the close proximity to Homebase, Wickes, (for Paul) Next and TKMax (for me). We are here till next week so must be very strict with ourselves regarding the spending.
Yesterdays post was written last Saturday and of course when I came to publish it there was no signal so the flowers were delivered on Saturday not Monday and on Sunday Chris went by travelling with nb 4 evermore. Hopefully we will catch up with them again as we wont be venturing too far.
We are on the 14 day moorings by the retail park which was just as well as it is full up under the bridge both park and towpath side. Understand that the moorings between here and Hillmorton are very busy and the locks are still restricted so must make sure we don't attempt them on a Friday when the hire boats will be returning to their bases.
Paul has spoken with his brother and the trip to Rugby for Sandy to visit the lace exhibition never came off, they had a really bad flight over from Oz on Friday so couldn't face the drive up on the Sunday, so hopefully we will see them now at the beginning of next week.
Yesterday afternoon Paul was just getting out of his chair when the boat started lurching about, as he is into name and shaming, the boat that was going North way too fast past us was a green boat non aptly named IDLE JACK. The two hire boats moored in front of us were bobbing around like corks in the ocean. Those of you who know this stretch are aware there are number of submerged rocks which you can bounce off of when boats pass at speed. Paul rushed to the back of the boat and said to the helmsman “cant you go any quicker?” expecting a reply of “ sorry mate” and being in the process of slowing down , but no, the old duffer made it quite clear he would do what he wanted to do and immediately put the boat in full throttle saying “ is this fast enough for you” to which Pauls response was unprintable but most of Rugby heard it. Why is it we are having more trouble with the private boats speeding by when they should know better and the hire boats (okay not all of them) have been reasonably well behaved.
The last door has had its stops fitted and these have been stained, varnishing will take place tomorrow. Dogs will have to be restricted to the lounge otherwise the varnish will end up with a fur coat.
