We were up and on the move by 8am (a boat went by at 6.30). Stopped at B48 to get rid of the rubbish and empty the cassette. so we got to the bottom lock by 8.30 expecting a long day. There was a bit of an argy bargy as a boat going up stole the water of a boat coming down. The coming down boater was in an old work boat he was born and bred on the canals so not the person to upset. After that it was fine we managed to cross over at every lock finally getting out of the top lock at 11.15.
One lady that we were chatting to at the bottom lock (the owner of a 98year old work boat still wholly original) was saying that late yesterday afternoon BW were repairing the paddles on the bottom lock and they de-watered the pound completely she asked the men why they didn't put the stop boards in to conserve the water and was told” that would take three men and any way this is what we were told to do”. Mind boggles as to the logic of this.
Rest of our journey was uneventful and Paul didn't have to go down the weed hatch once. Just as were approaching Valley Cruisers we recognised a boat coming towards it was nb Adreasa (probably not the right spelling) why is it when you come across people you haven't seen in a long while you are at some point in the canal where you cant stop, did manage a quick hello though.
We are now moored up near bridge 24 have stopped here before and it is relatively quiet and good for the dogs. Tomorrow it will be Hawkesbury junction may have to go to the Greyhound for a bite to eat. Then it will be back onto The Oxford.
