Back to Homebase again!!!!!!!

This is going to be a saga today.
Went to Braunston today to pick up the letter from the PO then back to Rugby town centre to Boots also called in the bank and the pub (in that order). Once back on the boat Paul opened up the tin of green paint that he had had mixed at Homebase yesterday, needless to say it was nothing like the colour we required, now going back 6 months or so Paul had a green mixed from a flake of Masons paint also at Homebase in Rugby which he has used below the gunnel line on numerous occasions, however the match is probably one shade darker than the Masons green which is obviously hard to detect. Now in his infinite wisdom Paul painted a piece of metal with the Masons paint and yesterday off he went to Homebase to see if it could be matched, the machine came up with 3 matches of different shades all of which looked much too dark. So with a colour chart in hand and the piece of metal we determined a colour and one litre was duly mixed by the assistant and with the lid off Paul thought it was a good match (oh no it wasn't). This morning Paul brushed said green paint onto Masons green the air then went blue because it was completely the wrong shade, way to light. BING, Paul had a thought that if he mixed the lighter green with the darker green he could get a decent match so with syringe in hand a couple of small pots he proceeded to mix different quantities of the two colours until he finally got the same colour as the Masons green. This worked out 2 parts dark to 1 part light so we now have 3 litres of the correct colour and at a third of the cost of the Masons. He did no more, wallet in hand (that's a first) shot back to Homebase to have more paint mixed. I meanwhile had disappeared into Next crafty or what. As I came out of Next Paul was walking towards me empty handed. Bugger me if they hadn't run out of the base colour no more coming in until Friday or Monday. Paul was not a happy bunny. Back on the boat next job change taps on the sink which is a half hour job, so he thought he would get it out of the way. Opened up the box which was sealed went through the bits and pieces and found that the fixing kit and the rubber O ring were missing now theres a surprise. To say he was peed off would be an understatement there was certainly a lot of swearing going on. So back he went to Homebase yet again and as this was the last set in stock of this style it looks like I am not going to get new taps. After a bit of faffing about he finally got his money back so that is one job I can cross off of the list for a little while. He did manage to get the bottle trap changed in the bathroom for a flowing trap and didn't swear once while doing that little job. This does mean though that Paul will have to return to Homebase while we are at Hilmorton next week to hopefully get his paint. This will be one journey he will make on his own I don't think I could bare it if there was no base colour in stock he might loose it completely and create a ruckass.
Do these stores really know how to run a business I ask myself who ever heard of a DIY store running out of paint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
